Almost three days without Internet was a bit of a challenge for me, and after another day off at home yesterday, I’m back at work and loathing it as expected. Time is whittling away and tomorrow will be the beginning of a new month with new goals.
The main task I had over the weekend was to edit ‘Evicted’ and combine the strong elements of two versions from different points of view. I found this difficult to start, with the consensus from the beta readers being that the first version written in third person worked better, but version two in first person was better written.
Last night, after being inspired on my way home from the city, I just rewrote the thing. I think that counts as editing and might look over it this afternoon or later tonight after writer’s group.
The main benefit I got out of all the time without Internet, was reading. I’ve been ploughing through Company by Max Barry and read a few pieces from Voiceworks.
And over the weekend, I began rewriting what’s known as ‘the abattoir short’ after reading through my 2 or 3 year old (horribly written) draft and outlining the main plot points. I got 1,500 words down and am quite happy with it.
It was a pretty productive weekend but now I’ve got less than 12 hours to polish off the last bits of my goals.
